Video footage shows that the police fired teargas shells from close range directly at the demonstrating college students at the Shahbagh crossing on 20 July, in breach of the normal practice of firing them into the air at a certain angle.
The video footage also shows Titumir college student Siddiqur Rahman lying on the ground shortly after the teargas shells were fired.
Siddiqur received injuries in his eyes during the demonstration staged by seven government colleges affiliated with the University of Dhaka. They were demanding dates and schedule of their examinations.
Siddiqur Rahman was undergoing treatment in the capital’s National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital where both his eyes were operated upon on Saturday.
