Operational activities of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) will start soon.
Around 40 institutions including public and private medical, dental and nursing colleges and institutes of health technologies in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions will launch their academic activities under the university from this current 2017-18 session.
Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Masum Habib disclosed this at a view-sharing meeting with heads of the institutions at a conference of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) on Monday.
Prof Habib told the meeting that there is an instruction of prime minister Sheikh Hasina relating to quick implementation of the university through improving academic activities with addition of time-fitting course and curriculum.
The university will conduct 90 post-graduate courses under eight faculties from now on, he added. Besides, there will be a 1000-bed modern hospital attached to the university. A nursing institute will also be established for producing skilled nurses.
Prof Habib said all necessary activities will be done with transparency and accountability in order to generate skilled manpower in the field of medical research and treatment.
RMC principal Prof Anwar Habib, director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Rafiqul Islam, divisional director of health Abdus Sobhan and others concerned were present at the meeting.
