Veteran leftist politician Ajoy Roy passed away at his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka this morning at the age of 89, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Roy, president of Sammilita Samajik Andolon, was also a coordinator of a platform against communalism and militancy.
After prolong illness, Roy breathed his last at 5:30am, Prothom Alo reports quoting Oikya Nap President Pankaj Bhattacharya.
His wife Joyonti Roy was with him during his demise. The couple have two daughters and a son who live in the US and Germany.
Roy’s body has been kept at the Birdem Hospital, the daily said.
A citizens’ tribute will be paid to the memories of Roy at the Central Sheed Minar on Wednesday, Bhattacharya told the bangle daily. His body will be kept there from 10:00am to 11:00am, he added.
