Two suspected cow lifters have been beaten to death at Kapasia of Gazipur. The incident took place at Borosit of Bhuiyanbari on Saturday. The deceased are Mohammed Alam, 38, and his accomplice Abul Kalam, 35, from Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj. Mohammedd Moksed, 38, from Keraniganj, Dhaka, was injured in mob beating.
According to police and witnesses, a covered van was speeding through the Bhuiyanbari Borsit area from Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur. The van turned over and fell into a paddy field after the driver lost control of the steering. Local people rushed to the scene and rescued a cow from the covered van.
They inquired about the identities of the van driver and his two associates. On suspicion of being cow lifters, the locals beat them up. Kapasia police rescued them in an unconscious condition, and took them to Kapasia upazila health complex where doctors declared two dead.
Sub inspector of Kapasia police station Maniruzzaman Khan said three persons injured in mob beating were brought to Kapasia Upazila Health Complex. A cow was rescued and kept in the police station. The owner of the cow was not traced. The covered van was seized.
