Police have arrested wife of prime accused of Bogra rape incident Tufan Sarkar from Dhaka’s Savar in connection with cases filed over the rape incident, reports UNB.

On secret information that Asha Sarkar, wife of the local Sramik League leader, Tufan, along with two of his associates – Munna and Ali Azam Zitu – were heading to Dhaka by a private car, a team of Savar model police station set up a check post on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Hemayetpur area, said Khorshed Alam, additional superintendent of Savar circle police.

Police arrested them from a private car around 11:00pm on Sunday.

The arrestees were handed over to Bogra police, said additional police superintendent (Media) Sanatan Chakrawarty.

Earlier, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested councilor Marjia Akhtar Rumki and her mother Rumi Begum from Pabna around 7:45pm.

Meanwhile, detectives arrested Tufan’s father-in-law from his house at Badurtala in the Bogra district town around 9:00pm.

Rumki, her sister Asha Sarker and mother Rumi allegedly beat the girl and her mother with sticks on Friday as the girl sought justice to the councillor for raping her allegedly by Asha’s husband Tufan, convener of the town unit of Sramik League.

Besides, a court in Bogra placed Tufan and two of his associates on a three-day remand in two cases filed for raping the girl and torturing her along with her mother in the district town.
