A group of miscreants has killed a businessman and injured three others in capital’s posh residential area, Banani. The victim was identified as Siddique Munshi (50), owner of Munshi Overseas – a recruiting agency to send people abroad for jobs.

Around 7.30 pm on November 14, a group of four masked miscreants entered into his office located near Bananai Graveyard at Block – B on Road – 4.

Witnesses informed the reporter that a group of four unidentified men entered the office and fired several rounds of bullets. Siddique received a bullet in his chest.

He was rushed to United Hospitals where doctors said he was brought dead.

After last year’s Gulshan terror attack, security of the area has been tightened. The entire area was covered under CCTV and other security measures like check posts. The public movement was also tough in this area during daytimes.

Though the entire area is under special security cordon, such an attack has raised the question again about the security weakness of the area.

Bananai streets are under special security measures. Checkpoints were set in places and streets. Moreover, the streets were blocked after evening by law enforcers and movement was limited.

Most of the important streets, street crossings, offices, and houses were under CCTV vigilance.

Bystanders opined that it was an unexpected event. The office was always filled with people seeking overseas jobs.

The law enforcers are expecting to arrest the miscreants soon. Sources from law enforcing agencies also informed that they try to serve their best regarding security issues.
