    road accdient in gaibandaBartaBangla Report :: Ten people, including nine from a same village, were killed and 20 others injured after two buses collided head-on at Gobindaganj Upazila in Gaibandha on Saturday, police said.

    Gobindaganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faruk Hossain told“The accident took place around 4:30pm at the Upazila’s Boalia area on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway,” .

    He said nine of the deceased were from Khuksia Kalugari village under Gabindaganj Upazila and they were on their way to attend a family programme. “The driver of their bus was also killed,” he added.

    Three passengers of the bus died on the spot after it collided with the Rangpur-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan.

    He added the seven other died at the hospitals.

    The deceased are- Maria Begum, 65, wife of late Aftab Uddin, Maria’s daughter Malti Begul, 50, Shamshurnahar Begum, 60, wife of Abul Quashem, her two daughters Aktari begum, 35 and Salma Akhter Papiya, 32, Shahana Parvin,53, wife of Kaosarul Islam, Selina Begum, 45, wife of Abdul Matin Mia, her son, Sabbir Mia, 12 and grandson, Risha alias Riju, 7.

    Police could not identify the driver.

    The injured are being treated at several local hospitals.

    Faruk Hossain said the two buses were kept in the police station. “A case is being filed with Gobindaganj Police Station,” he said.

    He said the driver of the other bus has been absconding.
