BartaBangla Report :: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday alleged that the main work on the much-hyped Padma Bridge could not be started in time because of impractical stance of Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
“The Finance Minister sometimes makes sweeping remarks that frustrate people. People like us should think twice before making any comment,” he said.
Muhith was talking to reporters after witnessing the development work on Nabinagar-Chandra road and Bypile-Abdullahpur road at Ashulia at noon.
Criticising Muhith for his comments that the proposals of China and Russia for construction of the Padma Bridge are not acceptable, Obaidul Quader said, “His remarks within one day after their proposals have frustrated the country’s people.”
Commenting that the finance minister is an educated person, he said one day when he will author his biography he must confess that the main work on the Padma Bridge could not be started in time due to his unrealistic stand.
About funding of the bridge, the communications minister said the present government would not face any problem to continue the work as an allocation of Tk 8,000 crore has been made in the current budget in this regard.
Turning to polls to five city corporations, he admitted that the defeat of the Awami League-led candidates have damaged the morale of the party leaders and activists.
He, however, said the ruling party knows how to bounce back.
Obaidul also said steps have already been taken to ensure the smooth journey of the home-bound people during Eid.
