He announced the decision at a post-match press conference at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe after Bangladesh lost the deciding ODI by seven wickets.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, however, will continue captaining the side in the two-match Twenty20 International series.

“I have just one thing to add before we finish,” the 24-year-old said. “I will resign after the last two T20s.”

He will end his tenure after the two Twenty20 internationals on May 11 and 12.

Earlier, Bangladesh drew the two-match Tests series against Zimbabwe by 1-1.

Mushfiqur was appointed captain after Shakib Al Hasan was sacked following Bangladesh’s 3-2 ODI series defeat against Zimbabwe in 2011.
