The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is becoming stricter to the foreign visa issues. The state-run news agency has informed that around 24,000 foreigners in the country have been arrested on the charges of visa law violation.
The arrests have been made after a three-day raid. Majority of them were held from the holy city of Mecca.
The law enforcers have informed that over 15 thousand of them have violated the law for residing in the country. The remaining arrestees have violated either labor law or border security laws.
About 25 citizens of the country have also been detained with the charges of assisting the visa law violators.
Earlier, a 90-day period was issued for the illegal residents in the country to legalize their documents.
The tenure began from March 29 of this year.
The government conducted a similar raid in 2013. Over 2.5 million illegal immigrants had to leave the country that time.
