BartaBangla Desk :: Four members of MN Larma faction of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) were shot dead in an attack allegedly by pro-peace treaty faction of the party at Madhyachhara village in Longudu upazila yesterday.
The dead are Sudirgha Chakma, 40, Jibon Chakma, 28, Gunendu Chakma, 24, and Sukhen Chakma, 24, said Bandarban police control room.
Of the victims, Sudirgha was the organising secretary of MN Larma faction.
One villager, Alo Chakma, was also bullet-hit in the attack, claimed the faction.
Quoting locals, police said an armed group of the pro-peace treaty faction on their way to a party meeting at Madhyachhara had sprayed bullets on their rival group around 11:00am leaving the three dead on the spot.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ali of Longudu Police Station in the afternoon said police had been preparing to recover the bodies.
During the tenure of Fakhruddin-led caretaker government, some top ranking leaders of PCJSS, including Rupayan Dewan, Sudha Sindhu Khisa and Tanindra Lal Chakma, were separated from the party mainly over disagreements with PCJSS chief Santu Larma. The separated group later formed the MN Larma faction and the rivalry between the two groups began since.
Aungshuman Chakma, secretary of Rangamati district unit of MN Larma faction, blamed the Santu Larma faction for the killing. He strongly condemned the incident and demanded arrest of and exemplary punishment to the killers.
Sajib Chakma, assistant information secretary of PCJSS, rejected the allegation saing that it might have been a result of the faction’s internal feud.
