    4 killed in Cox’s Bazar landslides

    Four people including two minors were killed and four others injured in separate incidents of landslides in Lighthouse area of Sadar municipality and in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

    Police and witnesses said two young people were killed as a large chunk of mud form Lighthouse hill fell on their house in Sadar municipality of the district at about 12:15am.

    The deceased are Saddam Hossain, 24, Shahed, 16.

    Physician Abdullah Al Mamun of Cox’s Bazar Sadar hospital said M Shahed was brought dead in the hospital whereas Saddam Hossain of Dhamankhali village of Sadar upazila died at the hospital.

    A local youth Nafis Iqbal said four people sustained severe injuries in the Lighthouse incident.

    Cox’s Bazar fire service assistant deputy director Abdul Malek said in another incident, a large chunk of hilly mud fell on a house of a certain Ziaur Rahman in Cheinda area of Ramu upazila on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf road at around 1:30am.

    Two minors of Ziaur Rahman — Raihan, 5, and Saima Akhtar, 3 — were killed on the spot and Ziaur Rahman and his wife Anarkali sustained injuries in the incident.

    Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner (acting) Saiful Islam Majumdar confirmed both the incidents and said excessive rain in last 2-3 days is the reason of the landslides.
