Customs detectives have seized two pistols at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
They found the Walther PP 7.65mm/.32 ACP pistols from a strong room on Sunday following a tip-off that the authorities would be tricked into releasing the two pistols, an official said.
Those had been among some old and used arms brought from Italy by Imran Arms and Company of Baitul Mukarram Market. MM Traders of East Rayerbazar was the C&F Agent.
The consignment had been stopped earlier at the airport because of a ban on import of such arms.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate chief Moinul Khan told that the detectives checked the no. 1 strong room of the air cargo unit at the airport and found the pistols.
He said the detectives conducted the search operation following the tip-off.
He added that the consignment came in a Kuwait Airways flight, but did not mention the time and date.
Representatives of Dhaka Customs House, RAB and other law-enforcing agencies were also present.
