hasina in metting 2BartaBangla Desk :: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said that the government will complete the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power plant in due time. She stated this while presiding over the 3rd meeting of the national committee on Rooppur Power Plant Project held at her office.

PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed the reporters after the meeting.

Hasina said that the government has already completed many works related with the nuclear power plant.

In this connection, she mentioned that the government signed an agreement with the Russian government last January.

Referring to the power sector development by the present Awami League-led grand alliance government, the Prime Minister said that the present government faced a severe crisis of power when it took office.

“We took up various types of projects including long, medium and short- term ones to mitigate the power crisis,” she said.

She also mentioned that the government through various types of power plants generated power and gradually the power crisis is fading out.

Hasina criticized the previous BNP-Jamaat alliance government and the army backed caretaker government for the power crisis in the country.

She mentioned that these governments did not generated one megawatt of power during their seven years of rule. “Even they did not try to generate power,” she added.

The meeting also approved the decisions that were taken in the second meeting of the national committee on Rooppur Power Plant Project.

The meeting took some decisions after discussion and review, the PM’s press sectary informed.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Planning Minister AK Khandaker, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, PM’s advisers HT Imama, Taufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and Dr Mashiur Rahman, State Minister for Science and Information Communication Technology architect Yeafesh Osman and secretaries concerned were present in the meeting.
