BartaBangla Report :: A Dhaka Court has granted police five-day custody of Oishee Rahman, daughter of slain couple SB Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and wife Swapna Begum, her friend, and a child maid for interrogation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman passed the order on Sunday, scrapping Oishee’s bail petition. She is main suspect in this sensational murder case.
Paltan Police SI Shahidulla brought Oishee Rahman, her friend Mizanur Rahman Rony and household worker Khadiza Khatun Shumi before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court. He sought 10 days to interrogate them.
In his plea he stated that Oishee was under the influence of drugs. She and her drug-addict friends joined hands to commit the murder. The three had to be interrogated to identify the other killers and to unravel the mystery surrounding the murder.
Lawyers Mahabub Hasan Rana, Chowdhury Mohammad Galib Rakib and Rezaur Rahman Tinku, Oishee’s kawyers opposed the remand plea.
Advocate Montu Ranjan Das represented Oishee’s friend Rony.
Oishee’s lawyer Mahbub Rana argued that Oishee, a minor, should not be remanded in police custody.
He said the hearing should be stopped and shifted to a juvenile court, and interrogation, if necessary, could be done in lockup.
Rana said, “The family and the society that shaped Oishee should be brought to justice.”
The judge, however, rejected their request for bail, giving the police five days to interrogate them.
The judge, in his order, stated that Oishee will have to be questioned in the presence of a woman police officer with extra caution.
Oishee told reporters in court, “I feel bad for mother and father. I have asthma.”
She was seen holding an inhaler in her hand.
Earlier Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam in a press conference said good progress had been made in the investigation.
“We found a knife and kitchen knife (boti) in the house. The regular knife was used in the murder. The other one was brought from the kitchen to cut a bunch of keys, containing the one to a closet, tied to Swapna’s waist.”
About the daughter of the slain couple, the DMP Joint Commissioner said, “The girl (Oishee) had many friends. She had become spoiled. Her parents tried to stop this and did not allow her to get out of the house.”
