A man has been killed while another was injured in what the Rapid Action Battalion or RAB in Feni claims to be a shootout.
The incident, at the wee hours of Wednesday, has been reported on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
The deceased man has been identified as Faysal, 24, who belonged to a robbers’ gang, according to RAB-7 Feni camp chief Shafayat Jamil Fahim.
He told reporter that they received reports of a highway robbery in the Lemua area.
“As soon as a RAB team reached the spot, the robbers opened fire. Our men retaliated when two men, later identified as Faysal and Selim, sustained gunshot wounds.
“They were taken to the hospital where doctors declared Faysal dead,” said senior officer Fahim.
The other man is being treated at state-run state hospital in Feni town, he added.
RAB said they found two fire arms, few rounds of ammunition and several sharp weapons at the scene.
