limonBartaBangla Report :: The Home Ministry has asked for withdrawal of both cases filed against Jhalakathi college student Limon Hossain.

The cases had been filed by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in 2011 under provisions of the Arms Act for causing obstruction in performance of official duty.

Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), on Tuesday told that both the cases against Limon, who lost one of his legs in an encounter, were withdrawn.

Rahman said, “For a long time we have been asking for withdrawal of the two cases against Limon. The Home Minister himself informed us that the cases were withdrawn today [Tuesday] at noon.”

The NHRC in a media release also said Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir informed Mizanur Rahman of the development over phone.

In his initial reaction, Limon said, “It has been proved that I am innocent. I am happy.”

He, however, said the case filed by his mother against the six Rapid Action Battalion personnel accusing them of attempting to murder Limon would continue.

Seventeen days after her son was injured in an alleged gunfight with RAB, Henoara Begum had filed a case with Rajapur Police Station on Apr 10, 2011.

Limon’s left leg was amputated after he was injured in the encounter.
