    Families of 121 Savar victims get financial help from PM

    Pm in distributeBartaBangla Desk :: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today distributed cheques for financial assistance to the families of 121 garment workers, who were killed in the eight-storey Rana Plaza building collapse in Savar on April 24.

    The Prime Minister handed over the cheques among the families of the Savar tragedy victims at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here this morning.

    While distributing cheques, Sheikh Hasina consoled the ill-fated family members of the Savar building collapse victims. A heart-rending scene was created at that time when they (the family members of the victims) burst into tears.

    Labour and Employment Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu, Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, PM’s Principal Secretary Shaikh Md Wahid- Uz-Zaman, Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, ex-FBCCI president AK Azad and BGMEA President Atiqul Islam were present on the occasion, among others.

    On May 16, the Prime Minister distributed cheques for financial assistance among 116 family members of 100 victims in the first phase at her office.

    Earlier, officials and employees of the Shipping Ministry donated Taka 1 crore to the “PM’s Relief and Welfare Fund” for the Savar building collapse victims.

    On behalf of them, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan handed over a cheque for the amount to the Prime Minister at the PMO.

    Earlier, a presentation on strategic plans taken for the development of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and a view- exchange meeting were held at the PMO.

    Managing Director of Biman Kevin Steeles apprised the Prime Minister of various steps taken for the development of the national flag carrier.

    Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruq Khan and Principal Secretary Shaikh Md Wahid-Uz-Zaman were present at the meeting, among others.
