Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday visited Government Titumir College student M Siddiqur Rahman who suffered serious eye injuries during a police action at Shahbagh on Thursday.
The minister went to National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in Agargaon and stayed beside Siddiqur for a while.
Nahid talked to physicians, enquired about the injured student’s health condition and consoled his family members, said a PID handout.
The doctors at the hospital told the minister that they are taking care of the injured student and ensuring proper treatment for him with the utmost sincerity.
They also said a medical board formed by the hospital sat twice on Sunday to discuss Siddiqur’s treatment.
On Saturday morning, Siddiqur underwent surgery at the same hospital, but doctors said there is a little chance for him to recover fully.
On Thursday, a group of students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University demonstrated at Shahbagh demanding announcement of their examination schedules.
Siddiqur, a third-year political science student of Titumir College, suffered injuries in his both eyes as police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the demonstrating students.
