A gazette notification has been published declaring the vacancy of the Mayoral position of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) due to the death of Annisul Huq. The Mayoral poll will take place within 90 days of the declaration of the vacancy according to Election Commission (EC) rules.
The notification was issued by the government amid a press conference.
The Gazette reads that the Mayoral post has been declared vacant for the death of Annisul Huq. And based on the election commission law, a mayoral poll will be held within next 90 days.
The Election Commission will hold the poll within the next 90 days. Accordingly, the mayoral poll deadline ends on February 28.
Annisul Huq, an Awami League candidate, successfully won the Mayoral poll on April 28 in 2015.
The post is vacant now for his death at a London Hospital on November 30. He had been taking treatments at the hospital for nearly three months for neurological problems.
The government has also published a condolence gazette marking the death of the Mayor.
