BartaBangla Desk :: Opposition BNP on Tuesday threatened to wage a one-point oust-government movement after Eid-ul-Fitr if its demand for restoration of the caretaker government is not accepted.
“You’ll concede to the demand for restoration of the caretaker government if the good sense prevails upon you. Or else, you’ll have to face a one-point movement after Eid,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He issued the fresh threat while talking to reporters after placing wreaths along with some leaders of Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at BNP founder late President Ziaur Rahman’s grave in the city marking its 24th founding anniversary.
Fakhrul claimed that all most all have support for their demand to arrange the next polls under a non-party neutral administration.
“People in the elections to five city corporations have given their verdict in favour of polls-time non-party government. Newspapers’ surveys also showed 90 percent people support it,” he added.
The BNP spokesman alleged that the government has failed on all fronts in its four-and-a-half-year rule and ruined the economy by indulging in massive corruption.
Accusing the Awami League-led grand alliance government of destroying the democratic environment, Fakhrul said BNP is on the movement to save democracy and protect people’s voting right.
He also rejected the ruling party’s claim that their billboard campaign aimed at countering BNP’ falsehood, and said the government is spreading lies through the billboards.
