Veteran Bangladeshi actor Abdur Ratin breathed his last on Tuesday at about 2:30am at a city hospital.

The first Namaze Janaza ( Funeral prayer ) for Ratin will be held on Wednesday at old town of Dhaka city. Later, his dead body will be taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) where the second Namaze Janaza will be held at about 3:00pm, says the actor’s younger brother Anjan Rahman.

Ratin was admitted to a city hospital after being affected by Chikungunya. Later, his physical condition deteriorated and he had been suffering brain haemorrhage since 6 July, added Anjan.

He was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on 9 July. But, he was once again shafted to Lab Aid hospital on Tuesday as BSMMU failed to offer Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities to the actor, said Anjan Rahman.

Abdur Ratin made his debut in Bangladesh film industry with ‘Notun Prabhat’ (1970). Ratin acted noted movies include ‘Lalu Sardar’, ‘Debdas’, ‘Shuktara’, ‘Jabab Chai’, ‘Swarthopor’, and ‘Chorer Bou’.

Besides acted mainly in negative roles in movies, Ratin acted in more than one hundred theatre plays and teledramas. His notable television dramas include ‘Grihobasi’, ‘Obhineta’, ‘Mohurar Mon’, ‘Bobakahini’, and ‘Ratnadwip’.
