Condemning the killing of Santal people in Gaibandha with ‘state patron’, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the country is now under the rule of ‘uncivilised’ people.

“We’re going through a critical time amid repressive acts…we’re now living under the rule of uncivilised people who turned the country into a jungle,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh arranged by Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebok Dal demanding the release of BNP joint secretary general Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel.

Fakhrul said people of any religion are now safe in the country due to unruly activities by ruling party men. “Now it has been proved that the ruling party men were behind the attack on Hindu people at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria.”

He said Awami League activists are attacking minority people as they do not believe in any religion or values. “They only believe in the philosophy of hanging on to power by resorting to corruption and plundering.”

Describing Santals in Gaibandha as the most neglected, exploited and marginalised group, the BNP leader deplored that they were being driven out of their houses using law enforcers.” We strongly protest and condemn the incident.”

Fakhrul said the country’s people are now living in a suffocating situation as there is no rule of law and justice. “Even the chief justice said the judiciary is not independent, if this is the situation where we’ll go, to whom we’ll go. Awami League has destroyed all the institutions.”

He urged the Swechhasebok Dal leaders and activists to get united and reorganised to get rid of the current misdeeds and repressive acts together with people.

The BNP leader also urged the government to try to read the public mind and wall writings. “If you do that you’ll find nothing but anger, hatred and frustration among people. Realising the situation, come to the path of democracy before the outburst of people.”
