Former police super (SP) Babul Akter has met the investigating officer (IO) of the case against him in connection with the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam.
He reached the city detective branch office in Laldighi, Chittagong, Tuesday afternoon.
Babul entered the room of the IO, also additional deputy commissioner of police Mohammed Kamaruzzaman, at 3:45 this afternoon, avoiding questions from waiting newsmen.
IO Mohammed Kamaruzzaman told reporter that investigations are at the final stages. Babul is the plaintiff in the case. He was summoned for questioning.
Babul’s wife Mahmuda Akter was stabbed and shot dead on 5 June last year at the GEC intersection of Chittagong city by unknown assailants. Babul Akter filed a case against three unidentified persons in this connection with the Panchlaish police station.
Police had initially said militants may have killed his wife.
Then on 24 June last year, police picked Babul Akter up from his in-law’s house in Banasree, Dhaka, releasing him after 15 hours of interrogation. On 6 September the home ministry issued a circular announcing his dismissal from service.
Mahmuda Akter’s parents are now blaming Babul Akter for the murder of their daughter, although they had rejected outright the allegation in the first place.
