BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said inception of the Liberation War would be delayed for an uncertain period had Ziaur Rahman not declared independence.
He said this at the opening ceremony of a photography exhibition on life of Ziaur Rahman organised by Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal on the ground floor of the Naya Paltan headquarters of the BNP on Saturday.
Claiming Ziaur Rahman to be the proclaimer of independence, Mirza Fakhrul said, “To be very clear, if Ziaur Rahman had not declared independence on 26 March, it’s tough to guess when the independence war would have begun.”
“The nation was devoid of guidance and was confused at that time, but no political leader made any effective call (for war). The whole nation waged a war at this call (of Zia).
