BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday said the government is implicating local BNP leaders in the attacks on Nasirnagar Hindu community in a bid to save minister and ruling party MPs and leaders.

“All news outlets of the country have reported that local MPs and ministers of ruling Awami League were involved in the attacks,” said the BNP leaders while briefing newsmen at the party’s Naya Paltan central office.

“The government has indicted one or two local BNP leaders into the police investigation report in order to save Awami ministers, MPs and leaders,” he added.

He also said the investigations carried out by the police into the attacks on the minority community in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria, were ‘stage-managed’.

Rizvi said his party rejected the findings of the investigation into the incidents of attacks and arson of temples and houses of minority Hindu people.

Referring to different media reports, Rizvi said that it was the feud within local Bangladesh Awami League that led to the shameful incidents of Nasirnagar.

In support of his contention, he referred to the statements by Hindu community leaders, civil society representatives and media reports.

“But the ruling camp is trying to blame others for their misdeeds,” said the BNP leader.

“It’s a fabricated and stage-managed investigation into a serious matter,” the BNP leader said.
