The central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Monday suspended two of its leaders of Rajshahi University unit for attacking The Daily Star\u2019s Rajshahi University correspondent Arafat Rahman for taking pictures of them damaging a bus.<\/p>\n
The suspended leaders are – Mahmudur Rahman Kanon, information and research secretary, and Saiful Islam Bijoy, law secretary of BCL RU unit, reports news agency UNB.<\/p>\n
A letter in this regard signed by BCL central committee president Saifur Rahman Sohag was issued.<\/p>\n
Witnesses said Bijoy, had an altercation with the supervisor of a bus of ‘Desh Travels’ in Comilla over fare. Following the issue, some BCL leaders and activists started vandalising the bus in front of the university gate on Monday, they said.<\/p>\n
As Arafat Rahman, RU Correspondent of the English daily, tried to take photo of the incident, the BCL men swooped on him and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.<\/p>\n
