{"id":1870,"date":"2013-07-28T10:38:01","date_gmt":"2013-07-28T04:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bartabangla.com\/english\/?p=1870"},"modified":"2013-07-28T10:38:01","modified_gmt":"2013-07-28T04:38:01","slug":"writ-petition-filed-seeking-dcc-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bartabangla.com\/english\/writ-petition-filed-seeking-dcc-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"Writ petition filed seeking DCC polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bartabangla.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/high-quart.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-840\" alt=\"high quart\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bartabangla.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/high-quart-300x183.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a>BartaBangla Desk ::<\/strong> A writ petition was filed on Sunday with the High Court (HC) seeking its directive upon the government to declare election schedules of the two Dhaka City Corporations (DCC) north and south polls.<\/p>\n<p>Two Supreme Court (SC) lawyers&#8212; Barrister Golam Nabi and advocate Alamgir Hossain filed the petition with the related branch of the HC this morning.<\/p>\n<p>The HC bench comprising Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Khurshid Alam Sarker is likely to hear on the petition later.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, on July 11 the two lawyers served two legal notices on the government and Election Commission asking them to take necessary step for holding elections to the two Dhaka city corporations and to declare the election schedules in 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The writ petition was filed today as the respondents have failed to take any step despite the lapses of 16 days of notice.<\/p>\n<p>According to the notice, the elections to the city corporations should have been held within 180 days from the date of their establishment on December 1, 2011, as per the Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009 (amended in 2011).<\/p>\n<p>Golam Nabi asked for holding the election to Dhaka South City Corporation while Alamgir for Dhaka North City Corporation poll.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BartaBangla Desk :: A writ petition was filed on Sunday with the High Court (HC) seeking its directive upon the government to declare election schedules of the two Dhaka City Corporations (DCC) north and south polls.
