    JS passes Tk 19,803.62cr supplementary budget for FY 2015-16

    Parliament today passed the supplementary budget of Tk 19,803.62 crore for the outgoing fiscal year 2015-16 to meet the additional expenditures under different ministries and divisions.

    Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed the supplementary budget in the House on June 2 along with the national budget for the fiscal year 2016-17.

    Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought the additional amount under 31 demands for grant. As many as 194 cut-motions were moved by seven members.

    Discussions were held on six cut-motions, including home affairs, defence, bank and finance sector, education, local government and disaster management.

    These cut-motions were brought by independent MP Rustam Ali Farazi (Pirojpur-3), Jatiya Party MP Nurul Islam Milon (Comilla-8), Nurul Islam Omar (Bogra-6), Fakhrul Imam (Mymensingh-8), Nur E Hasna Lily Chowdhury (Woman Seat-44) and Mohammad Ilias (Cox’s Bazar-1).

    However, those cut-motions were rejected by voice votes.

    According to the budget document, a sum of Tk 295,100 crore was allocated in favour of 59 ministries and divisions for the 2015-16 fiscal. But in the supplementary budget, allocations for 38 ministries and divisions have been increased to Tk 19,803.63 crore while Tk 47,120.11 crore have been reduced for 21 ministries and divisions.

    As a result, the budget allocations for these ministries and divisions reduced to Tk 30,535 crore and the total allocation now stands at Tk 264, 565 crore.

    The Ministry of Home Affairs got the highest allocation of Tk 3576.27 crore while the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs was allocated the lowest Tk 47.91 lakh.

    Among the other ministries and divisions, the Prime Minister’s Office received Tk 643.63 crore, while the Cabinet Division Tk 14.65 crore, Public Administration Ministry Tk 275.30 crore, Internal Resource Division Tk 139.86 crore, Bank and Financial Institution Division Tk 238.02 crore, Planning Division Tk 274.29 crore, Commerce Ministry Tk 46.75 crore, Defence Ministry Tk 2309.28 crore, Armed Forces Division Tk 5.09 crore, Law and Judicial Division Tk 177.16 crore, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Tk 1.56 crore, Primary and Mass education Ministry Tk 2343.23 crore, Education Ministry Tk 3153.31 crore, Health and Family Welfare Ministry 2114.92 crore, Social Welfare Ministry Tk 57.93 crore, Women and Child Affairs Ministry 81.99 crore, Housing and Public Works Ministry Tk 101782 crore, Information Ministry Tk 42.67 crore, Cultural Affairs Ministry Tk 12.09 crore, Religious Affairs Ministry Tk 66.58 crore, Local Government Division 349.25 crore, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division 118.57 cror, Jute and Textiles Ministry 473.80 crore, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Tk 57.85 crore, Land Ministry Tk 156.34 crore, Disaster and Relief anagement Ministry 330.37 crore, Road transport and Highways Division Tk 903.85 crore, Shipping Ministry Tk 650. 14 crore and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Tk 32.25 crore.
